Why We Help

The Fall season of 2021 marked the 20-year anniversary of the passing of Dave and Kathy Dutton – The Dutton Family Foundation, which was formally established in 2021, is designed to honor the memory of Dave and Kathy Dutton through the establishment of multiple philanthropic endeavors intended to foster the ideals that Dave and Kathy stood for and promoted during their time working within the Winchester, VA and surrounding communities.

Dave and Kathy were the epitome of hard-working, community focused, altruistic individuals and all fundraising efforts will be geared towards our mission of providing support to local student-athletes that best parallel these principles.

My relationship with Dave and Kathy Dutton was filled with lots of fun and laughter, so many great memories. Two of the best people I ever met, and I truly miss them every day.
— Terry Conrad (SU Men’s Basketball Assistant Coach 1986-89, SU MBA ‘89)

How We Help

The Dutton Family Foundation has partnered with The Community Foundation of the Northern Shenandoah Valley (CFNSV) and has created endowed scholarships at both John Handley High School and Shenandoah University.

100% of all donations made to The Dutton Family Foundation via the CFNSV will go directly towards the overall endowment of these scholarships and will allow us to enhance the number, size, and scope of the awards being made.

I never got to meet Dave and Kathy, but I’ve gotten to know the family over the years. The kind of people they all turned out to be is a testament to Dave and Kathy’s legacy, and we wanted to support The Dutton Family in continuation of that legacy by impacting students’ lives at the schools to which Dave and Kathy Dedicated their lives.

The Dedication of The Dave & Kathy Dutton Court at The James R. Wilkins, Jr. Athletics & Events Center at Shenandoah University Ribbon Cutting Ceremony

The James R. Wilkins, Athletics & Events Center at Shenandoah University, an idea that Dave Dutton could only dream of when his time at Shenandoah University begin in 1988, is the culmination of years of university planning to provide a top-notch space for its athletes and for the greater Winchester-Frederick County community. While it looks to the future, the facility also recognizes the importance of those who influenced the development of Shenandoah's athletic programs. On Saturday, Feb. 10, 2018, following a ribbon-cutting for the Wilkins Athletics & Events Center, The Dave and Kathy Dutton Court was dedicated in the memory of Dave, Shenandoah's former athletics director and head men's basketball coach, and his wife, Kathy, who coached the dance team, the Sensations.
